Boronia sits at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, and plenty of homes here still rely on a gas ducted heater that was put in decades ago. When that heater starts to struggle, most Boronia homeowners face the same question: replace it with another gas unit, or switch to one system that heats and cools. This guide covers the options, what our current ducted packages cost when we're replacing gas ducted heating, and what to check in any quote.
The quick answer
If you want heating and cooling from one system, our packages are built around ducted reverse-cycle air conditioning with AirTouch 5 zoning. Current packages start from $8,990 installed (Midea 10.5kW) after the VEU rebate when we're replacing an existing gas ducted heater in a single-storey home. Larger homes typically need a bigger system, and our packages go up to 20kW. Every price is confirmed at a free in-home design visit.
Your three main options
1. Like-for-like gas ducted replacement
Swapping the old heater for a new gas unit is the most familiar route. You keep a gas connection and you still don't have cooling, so on hot days you'd need evaporative cooling or split systems as well.
2. Ducted reverse cycle with zoning
A ducted reverse-cycle system pairs an outdoor unit with an indoor unit in the roof space, heating in winter and cooling in summer through ceiling outlets. With AirTouch 5, each zone has its own temperature sensor and setting, controlled from a wall touchscreen or your phone. That means you can warm the living areas in the evening and the bedrooms overnight without running the whole house.
3. Split systems in the rooms you use most
Wall-mounted split systems can suit smaller homes or households that mostly live in one or two rooms. There are no ducts involved, so the old gas ducted system is usually decommissioned. Our split system guide explains what to expect.

What every package includes
- A ducted reverse-cycle system sized for your home, from Midea, Daikin, Hisense or Panasonic.
- AirTouch 5 zoning with temperature-controlled zones, each with its own temperature sensor.
- Outlets with insulated flexible ductwork, with the number of outlets shown for each package above.
- Removal of your old gas ducted heater.
- A free in-home design visit before you get a fixed quote, so the system is sized and zoned for your home.
What can change the price
Whoever you get to quote, these are the things most likely to move the price on a Boronia home:
- Single or double storey. Double-storey homes need more work in the roof and walls; with us that adds $500.
- Outlets and zones. A home with more rooms than a package covers may need extra outlets or zones.
- Ductwork. Ducts designed only for heating aren't always right for a system that also cools. Ask whether the old ducts are being reused or replaced, and what insulation the new ductwork has.
- Power supply. Some homes need a switchboard or circuit upgrade, and our 20kW Daikin package needs 3-phase power.
- Old heater removal. Check that removal and disposal of the old heater are in the price. They are in ours.
- Rebates. Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) discounts can apply when you replace gas heating, depending on the system and your circumstances.
Running costs and zoning
We don't publish a single running-cost figure, because it depends on your home's size and insulation, how you use it and your electricity plan. The practical difference zoning makes is simple: you only heat or cool the rooms you're using, and each zone holds its own temperature. Use our quick package finder to see which package suits your home.
