Replacing Gas Ducted Heating in Knoxfield: Costs and Options (2026)

Bright open-plan living room and kitchen with a ceiling-mounted ducted air outlet and a wall controller

If your Knoxfield home still runs on an older gas ducted heater, you've probably wondered whether to replace it with another gas unit or switch to something that heats and cools. This guide sets out the realistic options, what our fixed-price ducted packages cost when we're replacing gas ducted heating, and what to check in any quote before you sign.

The quick answer

If you want heating and cooling from one system, the upgrade our packages are built around is ducted reverse-cycle air conditioning with AirTouch 5 zoning. It heats in winter, cools in summer and lets you set a different temperature in up to 8 zones. Our 16kW Premium packages start from $9,900 installed (Hisense) or $12,990 (Daikin or Panasonic) when we're replacing a gas ducted heater.

Your three main options

1. Replace the gas ducted heater with another gas unit

This is the closest like-for-like swap. It keeps the system you're used to, but you still have a gas connection and no cooling. If you also want cooling, you'd need a separate system such as evaporative cooling or split systems.

2. Switch to ducted reverse cycle with zoning

A ducted reverse-cycle system uses one outdoor unit and an indoor unit in the roof space to both heat and cool through ceiling outlets. With AirTouch 5 you control each zone from a wall touchscreen or your phone, so you can heat the living areas in the evening and the bedrooms overnight without running the whole house.

3. Split systems in the main rooms

Wall-mounted split systems can suit smaller homes or households that mainly use one or two rooms. They don't use ducts, so the old gas ducted system would usually be decommissioned or left in place. Our split system guide covers what to expect.

What our gas ducted replacement packages include

Our 16kW Premium packages are designed for homes replacing gas ducted heating and include:

  • A 16kW ducted reverse-cycle system from Hisense (from $9,900 installed) or Daikin and Panasonic (from $12,990 installed).
  • AirTouch 5 smart zoning with up to 8 temperature-controlled zones.
  • Up to 8 outlets with R1.5 insulated flexible ductwork.
  • A free in-home design visit before you get a fixed quote, so the system is sized and zoned for your home.

Package pricing applies when we remove a gas ducted heater. There's a $500 surcharge for double-storey homes, and package prices are a guide only until confirmed at the in-home inspection.

What can change the price

Every house is different, so these are the things most likely to move a quote up or down, with us or any other installer:

  • Single or double storey. Double-storey homes need more work in the roof and walls; with us that's a $500 surcharge.
  • Number of outlets and zones. A larger home or one with extra rooms may need more than the 8 outlets included in a package.
  • Ductwork condition and size. Ask whether the old ducts are being reused or replaced, and what insulation rating the new ductwork has.
  • Electrical capacity. Some homes need a switchboard or circuit upgrade for a larger reverse-cycle system.
  • Removing the old heater. Check that removal, disposal and capping of the gas line are included in the price.
  • Rebates. Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts can apply when replacing gas heating, depending on the system and your circumstances.

Running costs and zoning

We won't quote a single running-cost figure here, because it depends on your home, how you use it and your electricity plan. What makes the biggest practical difference is zoning: with AirTouch 5 you only heat or cool the rooms you're using, and each zone holds its own temperature. You can estimate what zoning could save in your home with our AirTouch 5 calculator.

Common questions from Knoxfield homeowners

Do you replace gas ducted heating in Knoxfield?

Yes. We're based in Ringwood, a short drive from Knoxfield, and install and service heating and cooling across metropolitan Melbourne, including Knoxfield, Ferntree Gully, Rowville, Wantirna South, Boronia and the surrounding eastern suburbs.

How much does it cost to replace gas ducted heating with ducted reverse cycle in Knoxfield?

Our 16kW Premium packages with AirTouch 5 zoning start from $9,900 installed for Hisense, or $12,990 for Daikin or Panasonic, when we're replacing a gas ducted heater. Double-storey homes add $500. Your final price is confirmed after a free in-home inspection.

Can my existing gas ducted ductwork be reused?

Our packages include new R1.5 insulated flexible ductwork with up to 8 outlets. Ducting designed only for heating isn't always right for a system that also cools, so we check your existing ducts and roof space at the in-home visit and spell out what is being replaced in your quote.

Can I pay off a new system over time?

Yes. We offer 36 months interest free through Zip or Humm, subject to eligibility. Additional fees apply for finance, so ask us to include the details when we quote.
