Is My Ducted Air Conditioning Quote Fair? Melbourne Price Ranges (2026) and Quote Checker

Bright open-plan living room and kitchen with a ceiling-mounted ducted air outlet and a wall controller

If you already have a quote for ducted heating and cooling and want to know if it's a fair price, this page gives you Melbourne price ranges by size, a quick checker, and the things that most often make one quote look cheaper than another.

The quick answer

As at 25 October 2026, fixed-price ducted reverse-cycle packages with AirTouch 5 zoning advertised by Melbourne installers ranged from $11,890 to $12,290 for 14kW, $12,990 to $14,090 for 16kW, $12,790 to $15,290 for 18kW and $13,490 to $14,600 for 20kW, in Daikin and Panasonic, after the VEU rebate when replacing gas ducted heating. Midea and Hisense packages with the same zoning start from $8,990. A quote well above these needs a reason; a quote well below them needs checking for what's missing.

Installed prices after the VEU rebate when replacing an existing gas ducted heater, single storey, with AirTouch 5 zoning, as advertised on 25 October 2026 by HVAC Climate Solutions, All Aspects Heating & Cooling and Dale Air. Zones and outlets differ between packages; see the full side-by-side comparison, which we update weekly.

In Midea and Hisense, our zoned packages run from $8,990 (Midea 10.5kW) to $9,990 (Midea 20kW). We didn't find other fixed-price zoned packages advertised in these brands to compare against.

What makes a ducted quote look cheaper

  • Fewer zones, or zones without sensors. A zone that only opens and closes isn't the same as one with its own temperature sensor.
  • Fewer outlets. Count them. Each extra outlet is real material and labour.
  • The rebate shown differently. One quote may be before the VEU discount, another after it. See how the VEU rebate works.
  • Old heater removal not included. Check it's in the price.
  • Extras listed separately. Double storey, metal roofs, a high or roof-mounted outdoor unit and 3-phase power often appear as add-ons. Here's what each extra costs with us.
  • A smaller system. A cheaper quote may simply be for fewer kilowatts. Compare the same size.
  • The ductwork. Ask whether ducts are new and insulated, and what's being reused.
  • A "from" price. Advertised prices are for the smallest home the package suits; your home may need more.

Common questions

How much should ducted air conditioning cost in Melbourne in 2026?

Fixed-price ducted reverse-cycle packages with AirTouch 5 zoning advertised by Melbourne installers on 25 October 2026 ranged from $11,890 to $12,290 for 14kW, $12,990 to $14,090 for 16kW, $12,790 to $15,290 for 18kW and $13,490 to $14,600 for 20kW in Daikin and Panasonic, after the VEU rebate when replacing gas ducted heating. Midea and Hisense packages start from $8,990.

Why is one ducted quote so much cheaper than another?

Usually because it includes fewer zones or zones without temperature sensors, fewer outlets, shows the price after the rebate when the other shows it before, leaves out removal of the old heater, or lists extras separately. Compare the same size system with the same zones and outlets.

Will you compare my ducted quote with yours?

Yes. Send us the quote and we will put our price for the same size, zones and outlets beside it, free and with no obligation.

Is my ducted quote before or after the VEU rebate?

Check the quote wording. If it doesn't say, ask. The indicative VEU discount for replacing gas ducted heating is up to $2,520 for 10kW, $4,200 for 16kW and $5,530 for 22.4kW, so the difference matters.
